Macadamia nuts are seeds of evergreen macadamia trees growing mainly in Australia. Due to the highest in all nuts, the fat content has a very delicate, buttery taste. They are calorific, but they are worth eating because of the abundance of nutrients.
Sweet, creamy macadamia nuts are not the most popular in Poland because of their relatively high price. The oil extracted from them became a hit on the cosmetic market. Valued for its range of properties beneficial for the skin, it is used as an ingredient in shampoos, nutrientss, creams, body lotions. However, the effects of essential oil can positively affect many bodily functions. Therefore, it is worth to incorporate macadamia nuts into your daily diet.
Macadamia Nuts – Nutrients
The macadamia nuts in 76% consist of fat. Therefore, they are the most caloric in all nuts – 100 grams delivering as much as 718 calories, or about 1/3 of the average daily energy requirement. Eating such a snack should definitely be moderate, but it is an excellent source for the health of unsaturated fatty acids, which are the vast majority of the compositions contained in the nuts macadamia fats. What’s more, omega-3 and omega-6 are found in a very beneficial aspect of the human body of 1:6.
Another advantage of macadamia nuts is the high fiber content – in 100 g it is found as much as 8.6 g, which represents 35% of the reference value of consumption (RWS). A valuable ingredient in peanuts is also a protein (8 g/100 g) rich in exogenous amino acids.
The fruit of the macadamia tree is a very good source of B vitamins. In particular it concerns thiamine (B1), the entire daily requirement of which may be covered by a 100-gram portion of nuts. This amount of tasty seeds also contains a lot of copper (80% RWS) and manganese (200% RWS) and significant amounts of magnesium (35% RWS), iron (26% RWS), phosphorus (27% RWS), potassium (18% RWS) and zinc (13% RWS).
Unsaturated fatty acids in macadamia nuts
The essential fatty acids (EFAs) are compounds that the body uses in many essential processes. It is not able to synthesize them, so be sure to supply them in the diet. EFAs functions include:
- Regulation of lipids (lowering LDL and triglyceride levels in the blood, play a positive role in the prevention of atherosclerosis and related cardiovascular diseases),
- Normalizing blood pressure,
- Inhibition of inflammatory processes in the body,
- Support of brain and organ function,
- Counteracting Kancerogenezie, m.in. Within the colon,
- Participation in metabolic processes and hormone production.
Due to the high oleic acid and oleopalmitynowego popularity of the cosmetic market, macadamia nut oil is being enjoyed. These acids occur naturally in human skin and its przydatkach (hair, nails), maintain its hydration and elasticity, accelerate regeneration, protect against harmful activity of free radicals, counteract inflammation. As we age, and under the influence of the adverse effects of external factors, the lipid layer of the skin becomes poorer in the above mentioned acids, and cosmetics containing macadamia oil allow them to be supplemented.
Other properties of Macadamia peanuts
As an exceptionally rich source of vitamin B1, copper, manganese, magnesium and phosphorus, macadamias have a positive effect on nervous system work. The substances contained therein support mental functions (thinking, memorization, ability to concentrate) and nerve conduction, as well as stabilize mood. Vitamin B1 and magnesium are essential for the proper functioning of the cardiovascular system. Potassium and magnesium lower blood pressure, iron and copper have hematopoietic properties to counteract anemia. Phosphorus, magnesium and manganese are involved in bone mineralization and their deficiency can lead to osteoporosis. The macadamia compounds in the Peanuts support the immunity of the organism, e.g. Copper has bacteriostatic properties. In addition, copper – as well as magnesium or manganese – is involved in many metabolic transformations, m.in. In the formation of proteins, enzymes, hormones.
